20 Ways to Wellness – Because it comes in all shapes and sizes
Can I just take a quick minute to remind you that wellness comes in all different forms. It’s not always lemon water and green juices and 10k runs and hot yoga. Sometimes wellness means girl talk over a bottle of wine while watching 90’s movies.
Remember: mental wellness is just as important (if not more) as physical wellness.
If you’re just tuning in for the first time, Detox on the Rocks is all about finding a balance. Ick. I hate that word: “balance”. But really. What the fuck is the point in running that 10k if you can’t enjoy a margarita on a patio on a hot day? And what the fuck is a hustle if you can’t reward yourself with some relaxation and a mini spa day.
Wellness is about giving your body and mind what it needs. Whatever the hell that is.
I’m not saying spend every other day in your pj’s eating a big mac. I’m saying, make small adjustments in your everyday life that become routine to keeping you healthy. And you won’t have to feel so guilty for those little indulgences.
Everyday I feel like I have 25783475934 things on my mind. If I’m doing one thing, I’m thinking about another.
Well, a couple weekends ago I took a kind of unexpected chill out day and it was probably one of the best days I’d had in a long time. I took Lily to her ballet class and afterwards had planned a date with our friend to go to a local flower shop and build terrariums. Well, afterwords we decided to go for lunch. And then across town to a different place for dessert. And just, hang out. No rushing. No time limits. Not thinking for even a second about anything else other than what I was doing. That might have been the first day in a solid… fuck I don’t even know how long…. that I’ve done something like that.
But it’s those little things. The things that make your soul happy that are just as much an important part of wellness as eating a balanced diet and breaking a sweat 5 days a week.
Last month I did a January Wellness Challenge. The point of it was to make small tweaks to lead to better habits in our daily routines and just to make us more aware of our behaviours and make positive choices.
Throughout this challenge, I also did bonus challenges. Small positive actions to relax, clear our minds, and just do something that makes us feel good. SO I thought I’d share these with you guys along with a few others.
20 Ways to Wellness
Unwind with an at home spa night
candles, bath, favourite face mask… bottomless wine…
Create a vision board
Set your intentions and keep yourself inspired daily
Support or promote another woman
Because queens fix each others crowns
Try a new workout
Never been to a hot yoga class? Maybe try barre? Keep things fresh and challenging
Finish a book
You know… that one that’s been sitting next to your bed for 6 months..
Go to a restaurant alone
Or sit at a bar or go to the movies. Be alone and be okay with it
Have a bath… unplugged
No phone. No strolling through insta. No checking emails.
Clear out/organize your inbox
You look at it every day. It’s like having a messy workspace
Message an old friend
We all have someone we’ve been meaning to get in touch with
Dress up for no reason
Just another Wednesday in the office? Errands to run? Hell.. even if you’re just sitting around the house. Do it because you’ll feel good about yourself.
Organize your closet
I love a colour coordinated closet. Or by tanks, tees, long sleeve, cardi’s… you get the picture
Try a recipe you’ve pinned
You’ve got hundreds to choose form I’m sure
Take a brisk walk
In the am. Or post dinner. It only has to be 10 minutes. You’ll be glad you did
Watch your favourite movie
Throw on some pjs and pour a glass of cab.
Treat yourself to something small
get your nails done, buy a new candle, or a new book… something for you
Sip your fave latte
grab it to go, go for a drive, and listen to your fave podcast
Plan a girls night
You and your friends could all use it
Stretch
Take 15 minutes to stretch at the end of the day or before bed
Throw some mint in your lemon water
You’ll feel bougie AND it has health benefits
Forgive someone
We all have our grudges. But why hold on to them?
I find I feel best about myself when I really take the time to get ready in the morning. Breakfast with the fam. Fresh coffee. And style my hair, do my makeup, love my outfit. I’m ready to conquer the day. How good does it feel even just to slather on your fave body lotion? Take the time to do your full skin routine. Eye pads and all.
And to recharge, I need me time. Like, leave me the fuck alone. I’ll save up my PVR recordings for a night when Tyler won’t be home. I’ll take a bath with my fave face mask, cozy up in my pjs, and watch all my shows with a couple glasses of wine. The next day, I’m much less of an asshole.
What makes you feel whole? What brings positivity into your day? And what helps you to recharge?
XOXO
