The Lazy Guide to Your Post-Holiday Detox
Here it is! As promised! After all those mimosas and pieces of pumpkin pie, I just HAD to make sure you got some tips on detoxing afterwards.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Enjoy your fucking life. Have seconds at turkey dinner. Drink 1 too many cocktails. Stay up way too late. Just don’t make a habit of it and know how to take care of yourself afterwards.
After a day (or week) of over indulging, your body really takes a hit. It’s easy to feel sluggish. To feel that now you’re thrown off-track and you may be tempted to keep eating left overs all week. And maybe even continue to over eat. Your skin may have taken a hit. Over indulging and drinking can also lead to mental fogginess, anxiety, and a depressive state.
I hope you enjoyed your holiday with family and friends, but now it’s time to bounce back!
You’re probably busy catching up on life, so let’s get straight to the point.
Detox Your Body
Chances are, you’re probably feeling a little bloated. It’s kind of funny how you can almost become used to that feeling. Don’t get used to it!
Water. water water water. Are you sick of me saying that yet? Flush out any toxins you may have consumed. Add some lemon to help reduce bloat.
Tea. Black coffee is a great diuretic. But if you can’t go without some added dairy, peppermint tea is great for an upset stomach. Green tea helps reduce cravings. And right now I’m LOVING this ginger and turmeric tea. Again, great for an upset stomach and also inflammation.
Sweat. Get to the gym, stretch it out at a yoga class, walk the dog. Whatever you prefer, don’t wait and don’t let this week be a write off just because it’s a short one. Not only will breaking a sweat help your body get rid of all the delicious calories you consumed over the weekend, but getting yourself right back into your routine will help to prevent you from having a sluggish week – therefore keeping you focused at work and any other obligations you may have.
Fuel Your Bod. Remember: It’s not always about what you can remove from your diet, but what you can add to it.
If you had a little too much wine with dinner, check out this Liver Detox from Jill Kay, the Holistic Nutritionist behind Down to Earth Wellness.
Did you know that warm/hot water promotes healing of the body? I think we could all use some of that right now.
Turmeric is amazing for inflammation, and here’s why you might need a little ACV right now:
♥ Detoxifies and cleanses the liver
♥ Prevents cramps, gas, and bloating
♥ Regulates the pH of skin and helps clear acne
♥ Reduces cholesterol levels
♥ Boosts immune system
Detox Your Skin
Skin Detox. This is the perfect time for a skin detox. A little “spring cleaning” if you will. And make sure to include a PURIFYING face mask.
Ice Roll. Ice rolling is a complete game changer when it comes to reducing any inflammation (and redness and swelling) Can I get an amen?
Detoxifying Pink Himalayan Salts. If you don’t know much about the benefits of Pink Himalayan salts, you’ve gotta check out this post. They purify and flush out toxins, reduce inflammation and bloating, and help to restore the chemical balance in your bod. I just LOVE that I’ve collaborated with Pink Detox – They’re all about detoxifying after being a little sinful. Who couldn’t use that? 😉 Bonus: These bath salts REALLY work. Bonus Bonus: They smell Ah-Mazing!
Stay Hydrated. Obviously, drinking a little extra water will help keep your skin hydrated (I mean, who really kept a healthy water to wine ratio this weekend? ……Pin drop.) But if you need a little extra hydration, I just love this hydrating rosewater facial spray. Just keep it in your bag and spritz spritz throughout the day!
It can be easy to keep indulging. Don’t let that happen.
