Serums: Why you need them and how to use them
One more thing to add to your face.
Do you need one? Technically, no. But I highly recommend it.
Here’s why…
Think of serums as skin “boosters”. Your moisturizer is great and all (and very very necessary. Never skip it!) But serums are designed more to target specific areas, like wrinkles, discolouration, and dark spots.
They are typically water based and contain a very high concentration of active ingredients. Because serums are made up of tiny molecules, they penetrate the skin much deeper than a moisturizer.
…whew.
okay. We’re getting a little science-y for me.
You know I’m all about prevention. Don’t wait until you HAVE wrinkles to treat them. Just stop them in their tracks… or at least slow them down.
Maybe you’re like me: In your 20’s, seeing a difference in your skin, and don’t want crows feet. Firming/lifting creams are a little too intense for younger skin. But add a serum under the moisturizer you’re already using, and you get the benefits of anti-aging.
(PLUS! Moisturizing helps to keep your skin young!)
DOWNFALL: They CAN be very expensive.
Are they worth it? Honestly, YES. I have paid up to $150 for a serum (Genifique, you sexy bitch. I love you) And it’s always been worth it.
BUT there are cheaper alternatives and I’ve recently found this one on amazon that I’m loving!!
It’s around $20
It’s Organic
It’s Canadian
It’s great on sensitive skin (raise your hand!)
It targets sun spots and wrinkles
I’ve noticed a difference in the brightness of my skin. I tend to get a lot of redness, and I’m noticing a HUGE difference since I’ve started using this (plus a little boost with rose hip oil) I actually feel fine to leave the house without makeup!
game changer!
Here’s how to incorporate it into your skincare routine:
Step 1. Cleanser
Step 2. Serum
Step 3. Moisturizer
Easy peasy.
And remember! A little goes a long way. You should only need a few drops to get the results.
I’m really loving this Vitamin C serum but if you feel like splurging and treating yourself, these bad boys are definitely worth the extra $$$
