If you’re not already… you NEED to start listening to podcasts
I’d say about a year and a half ago is when I first started really listening to podcasts and subscribing to my favourites. I had a lot of catching up to do and backtracked with all my faves right from the very first episodes. They became my motivation to get out for walks and now I’m addicted.
Let’s backup here….
I know a lot of people still don’t exactly know what Podcasts are. They’re basically talk radio… except you can pick and choose who and what you listen to. They’re pretty much uninterrupted (some will take a moment to shout out their sponsors). AND they can be very inspirational, educational, funny, entertaining… which ever you’re looking for. There are TONS of podcasts with TONS of topics.
When I first started listening to my faves, I would throw Lily in the stroller, turn on a podcast, and head out for a walk. I would be so into finishing the podcast that before I even realized it, I would have walked like 8 kilometres.
SUCH a great way to forget you’re doing any kind of cardio…. I don’t care who you are… You’re lying….You don’t like cardio.
They’re also a great way to keep your mind stimulated while you’re doing mindless tasks. For instance, cleaning, cooking, and folding laundry.
OH! and did I mention?? They’re FREE!
Yeah. That’s right. You can download right from iTunes for FREE.
Okay guys… these are my faves…
TO INSPIRE
The Skinny Confidential Him and Her
Lauryn Evarts-Bosstick is the creator of The Skinny Confidential – a lifestyle blog and brand. If you haven’t browsed through her blog before, I’m sure you’ve seen her all over Instagram. She and her husband, Michael Bosstick (Entrepreneur) teamed up on this podcast to give us tips and tricks on, well, EVERYTHING. They talk relationships, branding, boob jobs, blogging, marketing, sex, health, wellness, diet…. you name it. They keep it fucking real.
They’re witty and funny and beyond entertaining. But my favourite thing about their podcast is how informative it is. I ALWAYS walk away with something. Whether it’s something new I should be adding to my smoothies or a tip on editing photos for instagram…there’s always something.
Honestly, I don’t know that I would have launched the blog if it wasn’t for their podcast. Blogging was something I somewhat dabbled in when I was like…12 years old and had nothing to say. And numerous people have encouraged me to start one over the last few years. But it wasn’t until listening to their podcast that I figured I just had to do it. Lauryn shares so many of her experiences with blogging and life before blogging, and she gives so many tips on branding. OMG. If you need any help on branding PLEASE, for your own sake, listen to the HIM & HER PODCAST.
I think one of my favourite quotes Michael said (he’s always got a quote) is
“If you look back and you’re not embarrassed…. You launched too late”
(I hope I got that word for word) but he was talking about launching a business. And this is genius. Just a little motivation for everyone out there… you’ve just gotta do it and adjust accordingly.
The Balanced Blonde – Soul on Fire
Jordan Younger used to be known as “The Blonde Vegan”. She got a LOT of hate and backlash when she gave up her vegan lifestyle for a more “balanced” one. Being vegan was no longer healthy for her and she had also struggled with orthorexia. Her blog and podcast share her story of her past, health and wellness issues, and how she has overcome them. She gets deep and extremely raw.
She’s also a yogi and talks kundalini and Ayurveda. Because of this podcast I’ve been taking more time to learn about Ayurveda…. but I’m still a complete newbie to this. I’m not exactly someone who is super connected, so some stuff can be a little harder for me to grasp on these topics…. but I’ve learned so much and I always finish the episode feeling ready to make better choices for my body and my life.
Also, she has got to have the MOST relaxing voice I’ve ever heard. Makes sense she’s also a yoga teacher!
On top of her wellness topics, she sometimes pairs up with other bloggers to discuss branding. Just like from The Him & Her podcast, I’ve learned a lot about blogging from Jordan. My favourite episodes are those with RachL Mansfield. They give some kick ass tips.
To Laugh
Vanderpump rules’ “villain”. omg I love her. Yes, she’s a Bravo star and she’s fucking hilarious. If you haven’t watched Vanderpump rules before, you’ve gotta download the previous seasons and get caught up. I love all things reality TV and this one is by far the most entertaining.
Stassi is another one who gets fucking real. Her mission with her podcast was to make girls feel like they’re simply just hanging out having wine with their friends. And she nailed that. She talks about relationships, pop culture, sex, aliens, ghosts, shitting her pants, traffic, ranch… you name it. The best episodes are when she goes off on tangents with her friends.
For the most part, she’s sitting in her shoe room (yes, that’s right, SHOE ROOM. #goals) drinking wine with her friends. But she has also done some interviews with some really amazing people – Emma roberts, Rachael Zoe, and Nigel Barker to name a few.
After any episode you’ll feel like you just had wine with your closest girl friends. NOTHING is off limits.
Jack Schimmel… “creator of blog turned podcast…. the Bitch Bible“. Listening to her podcast in the car is what taught my precious little daughter to say “fuck”… and use it properly.
A feisty Jew who loves a vodka martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. She talks mostly reality TV and could pretty much give you the rundown on any Real Housewife that there ever was. This is my “escape” podcast. Honestly, I learn basically nothing other than how to really fuck with my boyfriend (important. because I’m running out of material). I literally LOL…
I love how self deprecating she is. AND how she can make literally anyone look like a jackass. She also talks about getting dry humped in the ear, her BOYFRIEND shitting his pants, and her best friend sleeping with her Rabbi. Entertaining AF.
There’s clearly a trend here… I love to listen to anyone with zero boundaries.
She has podcasted (is that a word? Cuz autocorrect is saying no) with TSC and Stassi as well. AND had them on her podcast before. I love how this little world brings my favourite people together.
