The Perfect Drink for A Summer Day: Cucumber Sour
A drink with blended fruit or vegetables is a smoothie right? Or a juice? And aren’t cucumbers suppose to be 95% water? So they’re healthy… and hydrating.
Think of this as a green juice. But better.
A Cucumber Sour. I mentioned in my post for the Perfect Margarita that I like my drinks a little more on the sour side, and STRONG. I don’t like to taste sugar or a whole lot of mix.
I’m not really one to feel too guilty about indulging. But if I can avoid adding unnecessary calories to a drink, I will.
TO START: Puree some cucumber (*nudge *nudge) …..smoothie (*wink )
Simply chop up a cucumber and toss it in a blender. You can do so with OR without the peel. I’ve done both and personally prefer without, just because I don’t exactly have the best blender and peeling the cucumber first makes it easier to strain later. Just a little tip.
It doesn’t really matter how much you blend because you’ll only need a small amount per drink. Use a whole one if you’re making for company as well. Or it holds up for a week or so in the fridge too!
Because cucumber is mostly water already, it blends super easily and simply creates a CUCUMBER JUICE!! (*nudge *nudge….. *wink)
Here’s how to make the drink:
In a martini shaker, add:
1.5 oz gin
1 egg white
1 oz FRESH SQUEEZED lime juice
1 oz pureed cucumber
.5 oz simple syrup
Shake WITHOUT ice (to help the egg whites froth). Then add ice, and shake again.
Strain into a coupe glass.
Enjoy! If, for whatever reason, you need help justifying a second… or third… just remember… It’s basically a green juice. It’s crisp, light, and refreshing!
