All things Festive – A Recap of Our Most Christmas-y Weekend
I’m not gonna lie…. I’m posting this a week late. THIS weekend, we spent laying around not doing a whole lot. But last weekend we did ALL the Christmas things and I wanted to share a little recap with you guys!
Tyler was out of town for a couple nights which meant Lily and I got some quality girl time. Some friends and I took her to the Santa parade and for dinner (which she slept through). And we spent a day baking and decorating cookies. It’s so fun having her at age where she can bake and decorate with me. We made a pretty generic sugar cookie recipe I found on Pinterest and while they were delicious…. turns out she doesn’t really like sugar and decided she didn’t like them after a couple bites…..Okay with me!
…Tyler came home Sunday and we got festive AF!
We always like to do things in one big swoop. If we’re gonna decorate for Christmas… we’re doing every last detail in ONE day! AND we really get in to it. Drinks ready, snacks ready… we even have outfits picked out… It’s a pretty big deal around here…
What We Ate
Like I said, we made a pretty generic sugar cookie recipe and this is basically all Tyler and I ate all day. Healthy, I know. For the icing, I made our own and used this food colouring. I’m obsessed with these pastel colours! It’s more of a gel than a liquid so it doesn’t make your icing all watery (and I never get the measurements right anyways *eye roll*) And you need only a teensy tiny bit. Pastel pink, blue, and green with white and gold sprinkles!
What We drank
We started the day responsible… with coffees. I modified a “hazelnut latte” recipe I found in a magazine. You may have seen this in my insta story. Although, I really didn’t add anything that could justify calling it a hazelnut latte… Let’s just call it a Christmas Morning Latte? Here’s how you make it…
Ingredients:
Coffee
1 cup UNSWEETEND vanilla almond milk
1tbs brown sugar
1/2 tsp ginger
Sprinkle cinnamon
Sprinkle nutmeg
dash of pepper
3 whole cloves
While your pot of coffee brews: In a sauce pan over medium heat, heat up the almond milk, brown sugar, and spiced. Just heated, do NOT boil. Sift out the cloves with a fork and pulls the warm almond milk mixture a few times in a blender until frothy. Add a few ounces to cup of coffee 🙂
As the day went on, obviously we swapped out the coffee for something a little boozy (it wouldn’t be like us to not) and sipped on some French 75’s for the rest of the evening. You’ve gotta check out the recipe! Such a great way to spice up your champagne 😉
What We listened to
I planned on making this great Christmas playlist… I like something kind of jazzy. But I kind of shit the bed there. We get this channel called “Santa Tracker”… anyone else have this? They have a radio app and it plays the best classic Christmas music. We’ve had it playing in our house non stop for the past week.
What We Watched
The Polar Express. I love this movie. We have this beautiful edition of the book. <3
What We Wore
This might be the most important part of our day. Remember the Seth Rogan movie “The Night Before?” The guys wear these hilarious “ugly” Christmas sweaters. Well, the sweaters are made by TipsyElves. They make these Christmas sweaters that are hilarious, (mostly offensive, so you better not have a stick up your ass), and are actually FLATTERING. They’re made of amazing quality and fit well without being bulky or itchy. These are the ones we have: Just a little tip: They’re on sale right now! And ship super fast. If you’re needing a last minute Christmas gift for your man…. jump on this!
Our Decorations
We always keep it pretty simple, but this year was a little extra simple with all the big moves. Our tree is decorated in gold, silver, and white. We have some simple greenery and pinecones… just keeping it simple and cozy. And of course, fuzzy blankets everywhere! Our one find this year was actually this adorable mailbox from Michael’s. We leave notes in it for Lily from her Elf on the Shelf (Frozen). It’s been a great way to make her stay in bed at night!
Do you guys have any Christmas decorating traditions?? I swear, the decoratingday is just as important as Christmas Day itself.
