Not your Grandma’s Rhubarb Pie
You all know by now that I love to make my vices as healthy as possible. So if I can sneak some REAL fruit into my alcoholic beverages and still have them taste good… I’m gonna do it.
One night after Lily went to bed, I decided to play around a little with what we had on the bar cart. I bought these Rhubarb bitters from Free Pour Jenny’s a while back and hadn’t used them yet.
Naturally, my mind went to strawberry rhubarb. I’m not a big fan of liquors – I find they just get too sweet and syrupy… So I didn’t have any kicking around. I like to think that using any type of puree or fruit/veg in a cocktail is really just a smoothie or fruit infused water. Cuz, I mean, basically.
TO START: I blended some strawberries. Just strawberries. Nothing else.
You guys… you know I like to keep things simple. So I’m gonna make this quick.
To make “Not Your Grandma’s Pie”
Whip out that martini shaker. Now, Add:
1.5 oz Vodka
1 oz pureed strawberries
.5 oz simple syrup
1 oz FRESH SQUEEZED lemon juice
3 drops of Rhubarb Bitters
1 egg white
SHAKE! WithOUT ice. Then, add the ice, and shake again.
Strain into a coupe glass (I find it works best to pour over a little hand held strainer rather than just the shaker lid. This helps to keep any pulp and seeds)
Top with a sprinkle of nutmeg (This is key! SO good!)
Think… summer afternoon, windows open… sitting on the lawn…. enjoying a delicious rhubarb pie cocktail…
