Spring Cleaning Your Skin… 2.0!
Spring is in the air!! We’re spring cleaning our closets, our garages, our inboxes… so why not our skin?
I spoke on this waaaay back when (check out this original post!) and I thought I’d do a little update since some of my routines have changed and of course, I’ve experimented with some new products that I’m absolutely loving.
So pour yourself a glass of wine, run a hot bath, and let’s get cleaning!
Why are We Spring Cleaning Our Skin?
Over the winter, our skin takes a hit. The changes in weather (and again in the spring, let’s not forget) effect our skin, forcing us to try a whole new array of products, lotions, potions, and anything we can get our hands on. We’re covered in dry skin (ew!), thick/heavy creams, self tanner, and I mean, who knows what else.
To begin this little spring reset, I like to start by skipping a few things. Try to avoid:
+ Self-tanner
+ Makeup (when possible, of course!)
+ Heavy moisturizers
I work from home so I get to be as greasy and ugly as I want. But if you’re someone who works with customers and feel you’re most confident with a little bit of makeup… try to keep it as non-toxic and minimal as possible. Besides, if you follow along, your skin will be looking so flawless you’ll hate to cover it up.
Your Face
Oils
For Two reasons:
1) Removing makeup – I always remove my makeup with coconut oil before cleansing. It makes your makeup (especially mascara) come off super easy without a bunch of tugging and pulling (that shit is aging and no-one needs that in their life), doesn’t miss a spec, and keeps your skin hydrated. Make sure to cleanse well afterwards though because when used on your face, coconut oil can clog your pores!
2) Rose hip seed oil – I use this every night before bed. I recommend applying it over your moisturizer (never under moisturizers or serums because they won’t be able to break through). With the weather change and if you’re really trying to go as natural as possible, you can even wear this on it’s own for a few days!
Lactic Acid
This is what works for ME. Read on this first to see if it would be right for your skin type. But this lactic acid by the Ordinary has been a life saver for me! It acts as kind of a gentle peel/exfoliator. I apply this before bed at the first sign on any skin congestion and instantly notice a difference in my skin the next day
Aztec Clay
To say I’m OBSESSED with this mask would be an understatement. Read all about it here. (It PULSES as it sucks the impurities out of your pores)
Your Bod
Dry Brush
An ancient Ayurvedic practice and just oh so good for your bod on the inside and out. Dead skin cells have been building up… let’s get them all off for bikini season! It’s also a great way to fully remove that spray tan and really get your skin back to its true roots.
Oils (Yes, again)
Skip the heavy moisturizers and slather your body in coconut oil post shower. Or any organic oil of your choice… but I just love coconut!
Detox Bath
As you may know, I recently bought Pink Detox and I can’t wait to share more of that story with you. But I’m telling you… this shit is magic! It helps to flush out any toxins (alcohol, processed food, bad energy, stress…), de-bloat, restore chemical balance and restore any lost minerals and electrolytes. Use my code DETOX20 for 20%, kay?
On Another Note
Don’t forget to take care of your body from the inside too!
+ Drink plenty of water (add a little lemon and mint)
+ Hold off on the dairy for a bit
+ Stretch, walk, sweat, exercise in anyway that works best for you.
+ Load up on veggies and greens
+ Put down the phone. Close your laptop
I PROMISE YOU… a few days of this little spring cleaning (and this is really all you need!) and your skin will be GLOWING.
