8 Easy Steps to a Post-Holiday Detox
HAPPY 2019 EVERYONE!!
I’m so excited for the year ahead! I know we’ve all got some big plans so I want to make sure we’re feeling our best to take them all on.
A while back I had written a post on a Thanksgiving Detox. I decided we needed a new Post-Holiday detox post. I mean, the Christmas/New Year season is sooo much longer. Thanksgiving is all of a weekend. Whereas the Christmas season is at LEAST a month. And there are just so many layers to it. There’s Christmas shopping, grocery shopping and more grocery shopping, social obligations, friends Christmas parties, staff parties, your partners staff parties, family visiting, possibly travel yourself, wine and wine and more wine (but hey, no complaints), later nights, earlier mornings, trying to wrap up work projects, possibly missed the gym….
Okay, it’s a fucking lot!
Let’s reset
Here are just a few little things I like to do to get back to myself… quickly!
Post-Holiday Detox
Rest
Be selfish for a day. Take a day to sleep in. Catch up on your fave netflix series (Is anyone watching “You”? OMG best show right now). Sip on coffee. Read. Whatever it is that helps you totally zone out. I’m sure we could all sue a mental break
Aztec Clay Maskh
Seriously, you want this mask. It’s under $15 on Amazon for a huge tub (CAD… so if you’re reading this from the states, it’s even cheaper for you). It sucks ALL the toxins right out of your skin. I’m sure we could all use this right now. You can literally feel your skin pulsing. After I had dealt with some super annoying skin issues that weren’t going away, this mask, mixed with a little ACV, changed everything. After all the champagne, chocolate, and turkey, we all need this!
A Detox Bath
Get this one! Seriously. It helps to flush out any toxins and reset after a little too much “sinning”. I may be biased but after I first tried this product (over a year ago), I fell in love with it and haven’t stopped using it since!
Dry Brush
The best way to exfoliate your skin. Another little detox tip, dry brushing helps to increase blood circulation and promote lymph flow. It opens up your pores AND stimulates your nervous system. Ayurvedic tip: brush towards the heart.
Water
Chug that H2O!
Be Alcohol Conscious
Many people do Dry January, and that’s great. But for those who’s New Year’s resolution isn’t to go sober, just to reset from the holidays, try to be more aware of your alcohol intake. Tell yourself no alcohol on more than 2 nights a week. Dinner with friends? Have just 1 glass of wine. I find after the holidays, it becomes almost habit to have drinks with dinner or in an evening to unwind. Just try to break that habit.
Try going Plant-Based for a few days
Like I mentioned earlier, I had been having some skin issues lately. One thing I’ve been doing is going plant-based for a few days at a time. I don’t know that being entirely plant-based would really work for me. But even just doing so a few days at a time, or choosing a few days a week really helped not only my energy levels, but also just to pay more attention to what I’m eating and ensuring I’m getting a wide variety of fruits, veggies, and whole foods.
ACV Detox Drink
Okay and lastly, a fave! Make a big pitcher of this and keep in your fridge. Sip on it once or twice a day over ice!:
– 10 cups water
– 6 tbsp apple cider vinegar
– 1.5 tbsp organic cayenne
– 1.5 lemons squeezed and left in pitcher
– 1 tbsp turmeric
– 1 inch ginger, sliced
– Sprinkle pepper
Now, go make 2019 your bitch!
