A little taste of home: Yukon Bonanza Box
I have been beyond homesick lately! I miss everything about my little home. The mountains, the cute little cafes and boutiques, the midnight sun… I mean, I’m sure everyone is sick of hearing me whine about it.
I may not get to hang out in the sun at 10pm or wake up to views of the mountains anymore, but I’m so happy I can at least experience little bits of the Yukon. (Thank you Yukon Bonanza Box!)
I love a subscription box and this one is unique just to the Yukon/my home.
Here’s the deets:
Yukon Bonanza Box is a quarterly subscription box that delivers Yukon-made goods by local artisans, craftspeople and culinary entrepreneurs. This box in particular is their very first one!
SO if you’re from the Yukon and are living away, if you’re someone who’s visited and fell in love with the place like everyone else, or if you’re simply curious as to why everyone falls in love with the place and want to experience it in some way for yourself, you’ve gotta subscribe for the next box! (shipping in September!)
The thing about the Yukon, or Whitehorse in particular, is that I could tell you every single thing about it, and when you get there, it’s still not what you’d expect. I worked in restaurants for 9 years there, and every super busy summer/tourist season, almost every person I met had the same reaction “I did not expect this!.” I always say it’s like a story book town. Nestled right in the mountains. And it may not have a mall or every fast-food chain, but it is young, vibrant, and you’ll never run out of things to do.
And although it’s a small place, there are so many people doing big things! I think one of my fave things about Yukon Bonanza Box is that not only is it another business local to my home, but it’s one that brings together and celebrates everyone else doing something they’re passionate about.
Here’s what I received in the first ever Yukon Bonanza Box!
- My new fave “yukon” mug from on of my favourite stores, The Collective Good
- Firebean Coffee – DROOL!
- Yukon Birch Syrup – Start your day with a little on some healthy banana oat pancakes and cap your night with a little in an old fashion
- Wild Things Jam – Dying to try with baked brie! I’ve Pinterest-ed (that’s a word, right) some recipes, but if you have one, please share it!
- Twisted Gourmet wild morel mushroom orzo – I’ve saved this to take photos but I can’t wait to try it! This company also makes spice blends and has the cutest packaging
- Gin & Tonic soap by Yukon Soaps – Seriously. Soap that gets me.
- Print by Priska Wettstein – I mean, how many subscription boxes send you artwork!?
- Yukon, North of Ordinary Magazine – and this issue came with ghost stories. Those who know me, know I love anything ghost-y.
While we’re on the topic, here are a few extra things I really miss about home!:
Beer – Both Yukon Brewing and Winterlong Brewing! Stuffed jalapeños at the Dirty Northern Bastard. Cocktails at Woodcutters Blanket. Walking the Millennium trail. Matcha’s and soup at Baked Cafe. Then strolling through Angelina’s Toy Boutique and the Collective Good. The kombucha selection at Riverside. Home decor inspo at Bella. The farmers market and the fruit stand. Sunny nights in the summer. Driving pretty much anywhere.
I’m telling you, if you ever get a chance to go there, you have to go! And please take me with you.
