Your fave kids food made guilt-free: #Fab 4 PB&J Smoothie
Okay let’s be real. A PB & J sandwich is still a fave as adults. But unfortunately, it really doesn’t provide much nutritional value. And if you’re anything like me, your stomach really can’t handle bread! But I’ve got you, babe. Detox on the Rocks is all about finding ways to still enjoy all your guilty pleasures.
I have to be honest… although I did come up with this recipe on my own with a few tries, the original idea was Tyler’s. We were getting ready to try out some new protein powders and I was like “what in the hell would I use strawberry protein powder for other than to just shake with water?” and he was like “A PB & J Smoothie?!.” Genius. I’ll give it to him.
We’re still playing around with finding our fave protein powder… we currently have a cupboard of I believe…. 9 different kinds? It’s such a tricky one. To find one that’s clean, but tastes good, and really, what is clean protein powder? We don’t want soy, or any sugar… it’s not easy! So until we find one we truly love and have used for a little bit, I’m not going to recommend one. But if you have any faves or tips on finding a clean, preferably vegan, soy-free protein powder, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE leave in the comments!
Before we go any further, I guess I should explain what a #fab4smoothie is. Celebrity nutritionist, Kelly Leveque, and author of the book, Body Love, created this smoothie formula to help you keep your blood sugar balanced with enough protein, fat, and fibre to keep you full. I shared my first Fab4Smoothie here.
#FAB4Smoothie : Protein (20g min) + Fiber (10g min) + 1 Tbsp. Fat + Handful Greens + 1/4 Cup Fruit + Superfoods + Liquid
#Fab4 PB&J Smoothie
1 scoop strawberry protein powder
1 scoop Vital Proteins mixed berry collagen powder (also contains 9g protein)
1 tbsp (heaping!) almond butter
1 tbsp chia seeds
2 cups unsweetened almond milk
handful spinach
A few ice cubes
Toss all in a blender and blend until smooth!
IF you don’t have the collagen peptides (Or just have the unflavoured ones, throw them in there!), sub in a few raspberries (Keep to under 1/4 cup!) to get that extra berry flavour. But I highly recommend the collagen!
Sip away!
